Experience the joy of painting outdoors! Plein air painting (from the French "en plein air" meaning "in the open air") emerged in the 19th century when artists left their studios to capture the changing effects of natural light and atmosphere directly from observation.
Join working artist and illustrator Mandy Arroyo for a day of outdoor painting at the historic Luscher Farm. Learn essential plein air techniques such as choosing a scene, simplifying complex landscapes, capturing value and texture, and working efficiently outdoors. Using water-based gouache paint, you'll practice creating quick studies that capture the farm's charming buildings, lush gardens, and pastoral views.
Students will come away with practical techniques for painting en plein air, a collection of fresh studies in their sketchbooks, and a deeper appreciation for observing and capturing nature directly. Learn more and book your spot here.
Join me in this full day workshop painting with gouache! We’ll explore techniques for painting with acryla gouache, developing unique color palettes, simplifying reference photos, and adding texture and detail. Students will practice painting a range of subjects and come away from class with a stack of studies and experiments.
Open to beginners and those with painting experience.
Join me in this 3 hour workshop exploring landscape painting with acrylic gouache, a medium popular for its vibrant color possibilities and matte texture. Learn techniques for using reference images creatively, simplifying a scene, and experimenting with color. Students will come away from class with a color study and a final landscape painting. All painting levels are welcome!

Over the course of this four-week class, Mandy will guide students through techniques for painting with acryla gouache, developing unique color palettes, simplifying reference photos, adding texture, and playing with pattern. Students will practice painting a range of subjects and come away from class with a portfolio of work ready to share online and continue exploring further in their sketchbook. All levels are welcome in this course - come ready to play and bring your own unique personality to your artwork.
